My favourite chutney!
As kids we used to enjoy a lot with homemade dosa and idly made by one of our aunty .. .my mom had also learnt it ...it was the days when recipes were not easily available and few restaurants/ food joints were there.
So whenever I make I always remember her ...I generally add lemon juice as tamarind is not readily available everywhere. If you have tamarind add it instead of lemon juice.
Ingredients and spices that need to be Prepare to make Coconut chutney -:
- 1 medium size coconut divided into two for both types
- For Tempering
- 5-6 Curry leaves
- 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/3 tsp Hing/Asafoetida
- 2 whole dry red chillies
- 3 tsp Urad Dal whole
- 2 tsp veg oil
- For grinding with coconut
- 2 tsp Roasted Gram dal
- 1 inch Ginger
- 2 tbsp Lemon juice
- to taste Salt
- For White Chutney
- 5-6 Green Chillies
- For Red Chutney
- 4-5 Red whole dry Chillies (soak it in hot water with seeds)
Steps to make Coconut chutney -
- Break and take out the coconut flesh if you don't have Coconut scraper. If you have scrap it.makes life easy.if you get scrapped coconut-some countries sell freshly grated coconut then it is a Boon.



- Grind all ingredients except the tempering ingredients for both chutney in a mixer grinder adding water as required (I don't like runny chutney so I just add enough water to help in grinding only)



- Once both are ready. Heat oil in a tempering pan,add the Mustard seeds, Urad Dal, Hing, Whole dry chilli and atlast the curry leaves and pour everything over the chutney and mix well. I do separate tempering for both.



- Serve it with your favourite Idli, Dosa, Vada or anything you love having with it. Bon Appetit!
